International Organizations

African Union (AU)
The AU promotes socio-economic integration of the continent for greater unity and solidarity among African countries and peoples.

European Union (EU)
The EU is composed of democratic European countries working together for peace and prosperity.  Member States have common institutions to which they delegate some of their sovereignty so that decisions on specific matters of joint interest can be made democratically at a European level.

International Monetary Fund (IMF)
The IMF promotes the health of the world economy. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it is governed by its almost global membership.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
NATO is an alliance of North American and European countries committed to fulfilling the goals of the North Atlantic Treaty signed on April 4, 1949. The fundamental role of NATO is to safeguard the freedom and security of its member countries by political and military means.

Organization of American States
The OAS brings together the countries of the Western Hemisphere to strengthen cooperation and advance common interests. It is the region’s premier forum for multilateral dialogue and concerted action.

Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
The OSCE is the largest regional security organization in the world with participating States from Europe, Central Asia and North America. It is active in early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation.

United Nations (UN)
The UN works to preserve peace through international cooperation and collective security. Nearly every nation in the world belongs to the UN.

World Bank Group (WBG)
The WBG mission is to fight poverty and improve the living standards of people in the developing world. It is a development bank which provides loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge-sharing services to low- and middle-income countries to reduce poverty.

World Trade Organization (WTO)
The WTO deals with the rules of trade among nations. It helps producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.
